Gradients Studio vs InstantGradient
InstantGradient is a WebGL mesh gradient generator with 10+ animated shaders, MP4 video, CSS and React code, and free image effects, with no sign-up and cheap one-time passes. Gradients Studio focuses on grainy images: grain rendered into 4K files, pixel and dither finishes on the gradient, seamless MP4 loops (free up to 1080p, 4K on Pro), and an app in ChatGPT and an MCP server. For animated shaders or code, pick InstantGradient; for grainy stills and loops made from where you already work, pick Gradients Studio.

What each is best at
Two one-time-payment tools with different centres: shaders and code there, grainy stills, loops and agents here.
InstantGradient is best at
- Animated shader backgrounds, exported as MP4 video up to 4K on a pass.
- Code export: CSS and Tailwind free; React and JS shaders on a pass.
- No sign-up to export, and cheaper passes than ours ($19 a year, $29 lifetime).
- Free effect tools for your own images: dithering, halftone, pixelate, ASCII.
Gradients Studio is best at
- 4K exports on the free plan, with grain rendered into the file.
- Pixel and dither finishes as part of the gradient design.
- Making backgrounds from ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor.
- Four distinct styles (blobs, stripes, clouds, rays) and one design for every size.

Which one to pick
Pick InstantGradient if
- You want a live shader on your site, or a choice of 10+ animated shader styles.
- You want CSS, Tailwind or React code rather than an image file.
- You want the cheapest one-time pass, or to dither or pixelate a photo you already have.
Pick Gradients Studio if
- You want a still image at 4K for free, with grain that hides banding.
- You want the pixel or dither look on the gradient itself, at 4K.
- You'd rather ask ChatGPT or your coding agent for the background than open another tab.
Questions
- Does InstantGradient export 4K for free?
- No. Its pricing page lists a 1× PNG on the free plan and 4K PNG and WebP on a pass ($19 a year or $29 lifetime). Gradients Studio's free plan exports at 4K, five times a month.
- Can Gradients Studio make animated gradients like InstantGradient?
- Yes, as a seamless MP4 loop of any gradient, 5 to 30 seconds long: free up to 1080p with a short end card, or 4K at 60 fps with no card on Pro. For live shaders on your site or code export, InstantGradient is the better tool.
