Halftone Gradient Generator

Gradients Studio's halftone gradient generator turns a gradient into round dots on an ordered grid over flat palette color, the look of a printed poster, and exports it as a JPG. It is the Dither finish with ● as its character; the first download needs no account.

Halftone, honestly

A print halftone changes each dot's size with the tone. This finish keeps the dots one size and changes how many there are, on an ordered 4 × 4 grid, which reads as halftone at a glance and as a clean dot screen up close. Type ●• to mix two dot sizes for a looser, printed feel.

The settings on this page

Effects Dither, Characters ●, cell size 40 px (96 dots across a 4K frame), Density 120% so the dots reach a little further into each transition, and Grain 15% for the paper.

Where it works

Posters and event graphics, comic and pop-art layouts, zine covers, merch mockups, and section backgrounds where a smooth gradient feels too digital. At 1.91:1 it makes a link preview image that stands out among flat ones.

How to make one

Open the studio from this page, or choose Dither under Effects and type ● into Characters. Larger cells make bigger, sparser dots. Turn on Only glyphs to scatter the dots over the smooth gradient instead of over flat color.

Questions

Is this a real CMYK halftone?
No. There are no separate ink screens or screen angles; dots are drawn in your palette's colors on an ordered grid. For a print job that needs true CMYK separation, use the file as artwork and let the printer screen it.
How do I make the dots bigger?
Raise Cell size. Each dot is drawn to its cell, so 32 px cells give dots twice the size of 16 px cells, and fewer of them.
Can the dots sit over the smooth gradient?
Yes. Turn on Only glyphs: the gradient stays smooth and only the dots are drawn on top, each in the second-nearest palette color to the gradient under it.
Is the halftone gradient generator free?
Your first download is free with no account: an HD JPG (1920 × 1080 for 16:9) with the dots. 4K with the dither finish is part of Pro, $39 for 12 months, or a $9 Week Pass. No subscription either way.
